RECLAMATION

Reclaiming the Swastika This artwork is for sale
The exact origins of the Swastika are unknown. What is known is that the history of this lovely and artistic symbol can be dated back in Europe to Roman times as well as appearing on the African, Asian and American continents. To the Hindu it is a very powerful and good symbol still widely used today. Unfortunately to most Europeans it has become a much maligned symbol hated for it's use by the Nazis and by a little German man who in the 1940's had designs on world domination.
The simple fact is that a 10 year period in history has destroyed for us a symbol of great beauty that is at least 2000 years old and whose meaning has become lost to us. Is that fair!!!
When I first learned of the history of the Swastika I knew that I had to design a painting in a European context that would capture it's real meaning of good fortune, prosperity and joy.
