ANDROMEDA
According to mythology, Andromeda's mother, Cassiopeia, provoked the wrath of the gods by claiming to be more beautiful than all of the Nereids (goddesses of the sea). As a result plagues, floods and a monster visited the land to wreak havoc. Only through the sacrifice of Andromeda could the monster be banished. Chained to a rock, Andromeda hoped for a hero who would recue her. Indeed a hero did arrive, his name was Perseus. Here I have depicted Andromeda in what she must feel are her final moments. Unable to look as the sea rushes in, a wave indicating the monsters arrival, unaware that in the background her saviour has arrived. |
